And the Winner Was... (2010 Scream Awards)

Last week I surveyed the nominees for Best Horror Movie at the 5th Annual Scream Awards, noting that The Crazies should win but predicting that Paranormal Activity would win.  Well, the awards ceremony has now been held, and the proceedings aired last night on Spike.  In case you missed it, the winner for Best Horror Movie of the year was...

This outstanding horror-comedy also picked up awards for Best Ensemble cast, and Best Cameo--by the inimitable Bill Murray, who came onstage in full Ghostbusters regalia to accept the award (for the complete list of winners, see the award show's official website).  Zombieland's Best Horror Movie win came as a bit of a surprise (though not necessarily an unpleasant one).  I guess I somehow managed to underestimate the general public's love for the undead.

Speaking of ambulant, cannibalistic corpses: AMC's The Walking Dead debuts on Halloween night, but in meantime you can enjoy the work of the show's Special FX Make-Up Designer, Greg Nicotero.  He has directed a great 8-minute short (presented as a Fifties-style newsreel) entitled The United Monster Talent Agency.  It's a humorous homage to classic horror movies, and a must-see for all you monster lovers out there in the Macabre Republic.  Check out the video below:
